CRI英语听力2012年08月合辑(文本):34-member-Chinese-Delegation-Joins-Asian-Science-CampSome30youngChinesestudentsandtheirteachersareheadingtoIsraelforanactivitycalledtheAsianScienceCamp,whichaimstoenlightenscience-talentedyouthsthroughdiscussionsanddialogueswithtopscholarsfromaroundtheworld.Aheadoftheirdeparture,boththeorganizeroftheactivityandparticipatingstudentsexpresshighhopesforafruitfulstudytrip.CRI'sWeiTonghasthedetails.Thisyear'sAsianScienceCamp,whichrunsfromAugust26thtothe30thinJerusalem,hasattracted30outstandingChinesestudentsandtheirtutorsfromprestigiouseducationalinstitutionssuchasPekingandTsinghuauniversities,makingtheChineseteamthelargeststudentdelegation,exceptfortheIsraelione.Atotalof220studentsandteachersfrommorethan20Asiancountriesandregionswillparticipateinthesciencecamp,duringwhichsomeNobellaureates,includingProfessorYuan-TsehLee,the1986NobelLaureateinchemistry,andRobertJohnAumann,anIsraeli-AmericanmathematicianwhoreceivedtheNobelMemorialPrizeinEconomicsin2005,arescheduledtogivelecturers.YuBoya,asophomoreatTsinghuaUniversitywhoismajoringinmathematics,sayshevaluesthisgreatopportunity."Iwillbeabletotalkdirectlytoandlearnfromtheparticipatingtop-classscientists.Meanwhile,sincethemajorityofparticipantsareasyoungasIam,Iwillbemorethanhappytoshareideaswiththem."TheChinesedelegationalsocomprisessixveryyoungmiddle-schoolstudents.17-yearoldXingYile,astudentatShanghai'sGezhiSeniorHighSchool,isoneoftheyoungestmembers.XingsaysthetourtoIsraelwillnotbeherfirstexperiencetravelingabroadasshehasbeentotheU.S.andFrance.Shealsosaysshewonstrongsupportfromherparentstoattendthecampgiventheprogram'sfocusonmathematics."MyparentssupportedmydecisiontoparticipateintheAsianScienceCampinIsraelsincetheyknowIshowastronginterestinthesciences,particularlyphysics.IhopeIcanattainmoreknowledgethroughthetrip.Meanwhile,Iamalsoeagertolearninnovativeideasaswellasthecriticalpointsofviewofthesescholars."ThefirstAsianScienceCampwasheldinTaipeiin2007.ButparticipantsfromtheChinesemainlandonlyjoinedthecamptwicein2009inJapanandin2010inIndia.YuLina,wholedtheChinesedelegationduringbothofthepreviouscamptoursonbehalfoftheorganizer,ChinaEducationAssociationforInternationalExchange,sayshighschoolstudentsconstitutedtwo-thirdsoftheChinesedelegationatthecampin2009,andcollegestudentstheremainder.Nevertheless,shesays,alltheyoungmindsweremotivatedbytheirparticipationintheAsianScienceCamp."Someofthelecturershadelaboratedontheirlifeexperiences,includinghowtheycultivatedanenthusiasminscienceandthereforegrewuptobescientists,whichIthinkisimportanttoguideandenlightenstudents,particularlytheChinesestudents,sincefewofthembegantostudypurelyoutoftheirownnaturaldesiretolearn."Thisyear'scampoffersarichvarietyofactivities,includinglectures,groupdiscussions,laboratorytours,andacreativitypostercompetition.Duringthecompetition,allthestudentparticipantswillbeencouragedtowritetheirideasonaposter,whichwillthenbejudgedbyanevaluationcommittee.Thewinnerswillgivefive-minuteoralpresentationsabouttheirideas.Certainprizeswillbeawardedtothefinalistsattheclosingceremony.LiXudong,DeputyDirectoroftheassociation'sDepartmentofCooperationandDevelopment,believestheseactivitiesnotonlybroadenstudents'professionalknowledge,butalsobuilduptheirteamspiritduringthemanyexchangestheyhavewithothersfromdifferentnations."Therewillbegoodexchangesamongthestudents,whoareexpectedtopooltheireffortsintotheestablishmentofthefutureplatformforscientificresearchtomotivatetheirpursuitofscientificcareers."ForCRI,I'mWeiTong.
